Wednesday 12 Sept - Manali Trek Day 3

8:15am, an earlier start today.

A leasurely walk sidling along the western face of the ridge working our way towards "base camp" in the headwaters of the valley.

We pass the occasional blue or yelow tarp stretched between stone walls marking home for one of the many shepherds grazing sheep or goats on the high pasture.

A steep climb up the moraine wall (grass) sees us at camp (3864m) by 1pm.

Spectacular views across the Kulu valley to the snow covered mountains and passes between us and Spiti.

And you guessed it - brief hail overnight.
